Frequently Ask Questions:
What do these units
look like?
You can see a photo of the Avalanche on our PHOTOS page. Both the Avalanche
and the Blizzard EFX-2000 are a compact unit that weigh less than 3 ounces and
are approximately 3 X 1 1/2 x 1/4". Both units can strap easily
on to your forearm. Both units are made of stainless steel, aluminum and machined
metal as well as electronic components.
What is the "snow"
made of?
See Below
Will it shoot anything
else in the air?
The Blizzard will shoot confetti, glitter, playing cards, anything light weight.
The Avalanche is designed to emit ONLY the Evaporative Snow.
What are these units?
Both are a device that emits compressed air into the palm of your hand, creating
a Evaporative Snow or Confetti snowstorm, card fountain, and more.
How long does the
air last?
The air projects about 15-20 seconds each time.
How loud is it?
There is a small sssshhhhhing sound as the air is released, but no loud motors
or fans. The sound can be covered with a soft musical track.
Does it use batteries?
Yes. Both use two small lithium photo batteries.
Where does the compressed
air come from?
It works with individual cartridges and uses two cartridges per show, or act.
Cartridges come with your Avalanche and your BLIZZARD EFX-2000 Starter Kit and
additional ones can be purchased from us, your magic dealer, Wal Mart, or sporting
goods stores.
How do you keep
it from going off while performing?
It will not release air until you move the the toggle into ready position, during
the performance. Then, with the movement of your arm to a 45 degree angle, the
telescoping top will begin to release the compressed air.
Does is come with
some snow and cartridges?
Yes. The Blizzard Starter Kit comes with enough snowstorms and cartridges for
about 5 performances. Dont forget the bonus routines. The
Avalanche comes with all of the items above, (except the confetti, which is
not needed), and all you need to get started.
Do you have to wear
a jacket or long sleeves?
No. Both devices are worn on the forearm and is hidden under a 3/4 sleeve. It
is not noticeable at all if you are wearing a dress shirt. You can also roll
up your sleeve prior to the effect.
Where do I wear
Avalanche the or the Blizzard if I am wearing a jacket?
You wear the unit on top of the dress shirt sleeve if you plan on wearing a
jacket. A jacket can be worn with the Avalanche or theBlizzard EFX-2000, but
no jacket is required.
Can it be worn throughout
my performance?
Yes it can. You can do just about any manipulation routine before doing this
effect. As a matter of fact, you can do just about any effect prior to the Avalanche
or the Blizzard EFX-2000 effect. You can also adjust the Piggy Back and Hose
on your body, putting the handpiece on during a brief break back stage. The
Instructional Booklet also has instructions for mounting the device in a jacket,
which can be taken on and off. Either effect can be done anywhere on the stage,
at any time during your act, and you do have total control, including being
able to stop and restart the air flow.
What are the bonus
effects?
The Disintegrating Watch, and The Vanishing Lights.
How would you compare
it to the Kevin James Snow Animator?
The stool is great and the inventor of the BLIZZARD and the Avalanche used the
Kevin James stool for years. And, lets just say that necessity is the
mother of invention. The Avalanche and the BLIZZARD can be done anywhere on
stage, while standing, sitting, or even walking. It is totally compact and concealed
on your person. No external apparatus. There are no loud motors or fans. The
Avalanche, of course, is the only special effect apparatus that will emit Evaporative
Snow, leaving no residue and no messy clean up.
Can I do it close
up?
We recommend parlor or stage with some background musical tracks to enhance
the effect.
Are they available
now?
Yes. BOTH the Avalanche and the Electronic Blizzard EFX-2000 are in stock, but
hurry while they last....!.
How
many cartridges do you use for each show?
Either unit does use 2 cartridges
for each performance. You are supplied 10 cartridges with every order. This
would be enough for 5
performances. The price on the CO2 cartridges is $15.00 per dozen. Additional
cartridges can be purchased from Wal Mart, sporting goods stores, or from us.
You have many types
of industrial snow machines. Which one do I choose ?
The snow machines each have
a different advantage. They can be differentiated as follows:
T-1100 This is the most compact.
It is operated by remote control.
T-1000 This one is a little larger
than the T-1100, but is very much the same unit. It is operated by remote control.
T-1500 This machine makes a "drier"
snow, and can be operated on ground level. It can also be mounted from above.
It is operated by remote control.
T-1600 If you are looking for the
quietest snow machine, this is it! Designed for the movies where noise makes
a difference. It is operated by remote control or by the timer.
T-5000 This is for very large indoor
venues. The most powerful snow machine in the world!
Questions on Evaporative Snow
What is Evaporative Snow
made of?
FG-100 Evaporative Snow is a laboratory formulated foam based solution
that makes the brightest looking evaporative snow product. It is 98 percent
water and two percent surfactant. Surfactants are elastic chemicals that make
the hollow flakes. This solution, used in our snow machines, creates a realist
looking snowfall. The solution is air aerated at 1/10,000. The water starts
to evaporate within seconds making the flakes become smaller and lighter until
they disappear. The surfactant chemical becomes microscopic particles. The surfactants
used in our FG-100 formulation are of the highest cosmetic grade possible. They
are non-allergenic, bio degradable, non-toxic and non-staining.
Will the Evaporative Snow
stain anything?
When used properly, there is no remaining moisture. For years this solution
has been used for making it snow on millions of visitors in theme parks, and
we have never received one compliant of staining. If the flakes are made very
large, they can hold some moisture, which can remove the pigment of silk and
lacquer surfaces like a baby grand. In these cases, the flake size has to be
adjusted to a quick evaporative flake size.
Is it slippery?
The product, used with the right settings, does not cause any slippery surfaces.
This can be achieved by setting the flake size to evaporate before it hits the
ground.
Can it be used around food?
Many caters and event planners use this similar solution and the snow machines
as part of a display, entrance ways to a party or as a wow effect
as guests sit to have a full course meal. It is also used for many weddings
as the bride and groom cut the cake. It is even kosher.
Does it have an odor?
No, it has no odor or taste.
Is it fire retardant?
Yes, it is a water based product, but will not set off a sprinkler system.
Does it have a shelf life?
Yes, it can be stored up to 2 years without being opened.
What is the difference
in FG-100 and FG-100C?
FG-100 is a premixed formulation ready to use in a snow machine. FG-100C is
the concentrated formulation that is not ready to use. It must be added to 120
ounces of water to be ready to use. FG-100C is made to save on shipping cost.
A gallon weight is 8 pounds, and an 8 oz. bottle of FG-100C weights under one
pound.
What does De-ionized water
mean? Where can I get it? Do I have to use it?
De-ionized water is the base of all our premixed formulations. This form of
water has no minerals, hard properties or chlorine. De-ionized water is the
base ingredient in our formulation because it makes the best foam and leaves
no water stains. It was originally used for the movie industry so that if the
snow landed on a camera lens it would not leave a water ring. Since this formulation
has no chemical, it dries and leaves no film.
Can I use regular Tap water?
If your event does not require the use of a movie camera or will not land on
glass, it can be used. Be aware that if the tap water you are using has any
hard agent, it can make poor looking snow. In this case, order FG-100 premix.
